whakamoi
1. (verb) (-kia) to call with the cry moi (for a dog).
Ka kī atu a Māui, “Whakamātau ki te moimoi.” Ka kī atu te tuahine, “He kurī koa e moimoi ai?” Ka kī atu a Māui, “Koia, whakamātau.” Nā, ka whakamoikia. Tiro atu, haere mai ana, he kurī ia (Tr 1874:40-41). / Māui said, "Try doing a dog call." His sister said, "Why, because he's a dog?" Māui replied, "Exactly, try." So he was called with a dog call. When they looked they saw him coming and he was a dog.
