(personal name) (1950-2003) Tūhoe, Ngāti Kahungunu; composer and singer of songs in Māori, Hirini spearheaded the research and revival of the making and playing of traditional Māori musical instruments. Associate Professor at The University of Waikato where he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in 2002.
