māwe
1. (noun) object used to represent someone or a place, or to defeat an enemy.
(Te Kōhure Textbook (Ed. 2): 227;)
Ehara te māwe i te wairua, engari he momo āhua e taea ai e koe te whakamahi hei patu mauri, hei pupuri mauri rānei (Wh4 2004:227). / The 'māwe' is not a spirit, but is in a form that one is able to use to destroy the 'mauri', or to hold on to the 'mauri'.
