1. (noun) skin, dermis, corium - the thick layer of living tissue below the epidermis of the skin.

Ko te kiriwai te paparanga kiri tuarua kei raro i te kiritai (RR 2009:373). / The dermis is the second skin layer under the epidermis.

2. (noun) underpainting, undercoat, primer (painting).
