3. (verb) (-a) to dry up.

4. (verb) (-a,-ngia) to bail (water from a canoe using a paddle moved briskly from side to side).

5. (modifier) turbid, muddy, murky.
He haere pō te tuna, kāore e rata ki te awatea – nā reira mahia ai te toi tuna i ngā pō me ngā wai ehu (Te Ara 2014). / Eels are nocturnal and avoid daylight – so eel-bobbing was done at night and when the water was muddy or discoloured.
