Anō ka nui ngā tau o taua iwi e noho ana i taua whenua, ka ū tētahi pora, arā, kaipuke ki taua whenua, ko Mariao, ko Pene Kūki, ko te tini noa atu i ū ki reira. / Those people lived on that land for many years when a vessel, that is, a sailing ship arrived there, Captain Cook, Marion [de Fresne],a great many arrived there.
note: assuming “Mariao” is Marion de Fresne. The TW transl is not clear. It may be that Cook is being compared to Mariao, a star.
