1. (noun) long-tailed cuckoo, Eudynamys taitensis - large brown cuckoo, boldly streaked brown with black. It inhabits mainly forested areas migrating to the Pacific Islands in winter.

He pōtiki nā te koekoeā (NP 2001:111). / An offspring of the long-tailed cuckoo. (A whakataukī likening an illegitimate child to the long-tailed cuckoo which lays its eggs in another bird's nest for the host bird to raise.)
