1. (noun) suffix - an ending added to verbs. There are two types in Māori, passive suffixes and nominalisation (or derived noun) suffixes.

I te reo Māori he mea nui ngā pīmuri hāngū, pērā i te '-tia' me te '-ngia', me ngā pīmuri huri i te tūmahi hei tūingoa, pērā i te '-nga' me te '-tanga' (PK 2008:636). / In Māori passive suffixes, such as '-tia' and '-ngia', are very important, along with the suffixes that convert verbs into nouns, such as '-nga' and '-tanga'.
