1. (verb) to make a hissing noise, hiss, sizzle.

Ka tīmata ia ki te pīra riki ki roto i te parai, ka mea atu he hinu me ngā toenga kai. Hihī mai ana ngā kai i runga i te tō (TAH 52:8). / She began to slice the onions into the frying pan and added the dripping and the leftovers. The food was sizzling on the stove.
