1. (noun) goatfish, red mullet, Upeneichthys porosus - an endemic fish varying from pale pink to bright red with brownish blotches along the sides. Small mouth with long chin barbells. Found around northern New Zealand from the Kermadec Islands to Golden Bay-Marlborough Sounds.
Pēnei i a tātou nei, moe ai te āhuruhuru i te pō. Ko te mea rerekē i a tātou, ka huri whero kitakita tō rātou tae ina moe ana rātou (TWK 36:11). / Like us, the goatfish sleeps at night. The thing that is different from us is that their colour turns bright red when they are sleeping.
