1. A suffix used to make verbs into nouns, sometimes called derived nouns, and the usual ending for verbs that take the passive ending -ria. These nouns usually mean the place or the time of the verb's action.

1. (noun) do-or-die attack, death-or-glory mission.

Ranga mārō: He taua kāore e hoki, kia hinga rā anō te hoariri, kia mate rā anō ki te marae o te riri (M 2006:52). / Stern pathway: A war-party which will not turn back, until the enemy has been defeated, or they themselves fall on the field of battle (M 2006:53).

Muri-ranga-whenua

1. (personal name) an ancestor of Māui, responsible for giving him her jawbone and all the powers it possessed. He used the jawbone to beat the sun to make him go slower, and as a hook to fish up the North Island.

1. (noun) koromiko tāranga, Hebe stenophylla - a shrub found throughout the North and South Islands in forests and on the banks of streams. The light green leaves are narrow and lance-shaped. White to lilac flowers appear in profusion in summer.

kōkōmuka tāranga

1. (noun) koromiko tāranga, Hebe stenophylla, Hebe parviflora - a shrub found in the North and South Islands in forests and on the banks of streams. The light green leaves are narrow and lance-shaped. White to lilac flowers appear in profusion in summer.

1. (noun) tāranga, Pimelea longifolia - an upright shrub found in scrubland throughout Aotearoa/New Zealand. Has lance-shaped leathery leaves and round heads of fragrant white to pale pink flowers in spring and summer.


2. (noun) Veronica stenophylla - bushy shrub bearing pairs of very narrow leaves that have small pits near margin inhabiting central Aotearoa/New Zealand. Leaves to 87mm long by 9.5mm wide, upper side dotted. Flowers white, tubular, in spikes to 95mm long.
