1. (verb) (-a) to strike with the fist, punch.

Ka makaia a Heremaia ki waho, ka puta atu hoki ia i muri, kātahi ka mekea a Heremaia, ka mutu ka hoki anō ia ki roto i te whare (TPH 31/10/1902:5). / Heremaia was thrown out, and he followed after him, then he punched Heremaia and then he went back into the house.
