5. (verb) to do on one's own.
Rangi: Me mihi rā te tangata ka kuhu i a ia anō, ahakoa ngā aupiki me ngā auheke. Pare: Āe, engari kia aroha anō tātou ki te hunga e tapoko ana i roto i ngā uauatanga o tēnei ao e noho nei tātou (HKK 1999:177). / Rangi: We should acknowledge people who help themselves, despite the ups and downs. Pare: E hoa, haere mai rā ki te āwhina i a au. Rangi: E kuhu koe i a koe. Kia kaha (HKK 1999:177). / Pare: My friend, come and help me. Rangi: You can do it on your own. Get into it.
Kua ‘tangata whenua’ koutou iāianā, nō reira mā koutou anō koutou e kuhu (HKK 1999:177). / You are part of the host group now, so you can fend for yourselves.
