whare mātoro

1. (noun) entertainment house - traditional house for entertainment and social intercourse.

Kīhai i roa ka heke te rā ki te rua, ā ka pō, kei te tākaro te iwi rā i te whare mātoro, kei te kanikani anō te iwi rā i te whare manuwhiri (TAH 44/1963:38). / It wasn't long before the sun had set and it was night with games being played in the whare mātoro and dancing being performed in the house for the reception of visitors.
