Kaiwhakawā Matua

D. Fenton, who had criticised as unfounded a Ngāi Tahu petition regarding the land purchased in Otago purchase, and those purchased by Kemp.
kaiwhakawā tūmatanui
1. Justice of the Peace.
I whakatūria anō hoki a ia hai kaiwhakawā tūmatanui, ā, ka hia tau kē nei ia e kaihautū ana mō te iwi Māori o te rohe (TTR 2000:122). / He was also appointed as a justice of the peace, and was a leader for the Māori community of the district for many years.
